Leave a comment » 60 Minutes Assault On Real Estate60 Minutes assault on the real estate profession.60 Minutes assault on real estate came during their segment last Sunday, ˜Chipping Away At Realtors Six Percent. This segment was a sad commentary on one-sided, unprofessional journalism. The National Association of Realtors twice offered interviews with Leslie Stahl, but the reporter decided to air misinformation rather than give consumers both sides of a debate. The NAR has responded to the misinformation that was given on the show on their website and I urge you to read what they have to say. It sheds a whole new light. I was a Realtor for 17 years prior to opening my Virtual Assistant business. What irked me the most about Redfin, the Internet-based real estate company which was the focus of Sunday nights show, is the fact that they are representing buyers in the purchase of a home without ever having stepped foot in the property. Representing a buyer means looking out for his best interests. How can you look out for his best interests, if you dont know what the house looks like. Somehow looking at a photo on the Internet, doesnt quite make it for me. How do you know if there are cracks in the ceiling that might be caused by foundation problems? How do know if the house backs up to power lines or train tracks? How do you know if the entire neighborhood is a dump and this house is the exception to the rule. How do you counsel a buyer that these situations will effect his property value if you dont know the conditions exist? How do you counsel a buyer when making the biggest investment of his life if you are not familiar with the investment? Realtors are hard working, dedicated professionals who take the responsibility of client representation very seriously. I am proud to know many of them and would want them looking out for my best interests. http://www.realestatevirtualassistant.net/002FAC
